Kos with Amy M .........

Kos has been absolutely amazing and I'm excited to give you a little blog on my family holiday, what we got up to and my personal thoughts.

I am a huge Greece fan, I just love Greece so to explore a new part of it I couldn’t wait. We stayed 10 days at the Blue Lagoon Resort just out of Kos town and had 2 rooms with a shared balcony. The hotel is part of the Blue lagoon chain which consist of 8 hotels. It's 5* and set on a huge complex that was built in open gardens, so expect to see chickens running around whilst your there. It's all inclusive with 2 buffet restaurants, 3 a la carte restaurants (included in your all inclusive of 1 visit per week you stay to each. There's an Italian, Greek and Chinese) bars dotted everywhere, food starting at 7am and even if you find yourself hungry at 2am there's a sandwich fridge in reception for you to help yourself to. They have 600 rooms and sleep just over 2000 guests with an adults only block of rooms and an adults only pool/jacuzi. They’re are 7 pools on the complex including a waterpark and lazy river, a basket ball court, 2 tennis pitches, mini golf a volleyball court and a football pitch.

We all absolutely loved it (my husbands a tough cookie to please and he wants to now buy a property there so it’s definitely a great place to go) it’s the perfect hotel for a wedding and we saw a few there. It suits all ages whether you go for as a couple or a family.

We did 3 trips whilst there and made our way to Kos Town on the evening ourselves and also included a visit to the general hospital for 3 stitches in my sons chin, where we decided playing dodgeball in the pool is not a good idea. However I can confirm the Greek doctors were great.

The trips we did was a boat trip that took us to the fishing village of Vhati on the Greek island of Kalamas. It was gorgeous, we picked up a honey that was made by a local family on the island and had won 13 international awards. It does taste really good but my 4 children kept asking him for another spoon so it was a no brainer I needed to support them and buy some and guess what, we’ve come home and not once have they asked to open the honey. 🙈 After Kalamas we went to Pseremos, another Greek island that only has 24 residents living on it. We went and ate in a little Greek restaurant, the kids had spaghetti bolognaise and we tucked into chicken Slovaki and of course tzatziki. We browsed some of the shops on the island and then had a swim before leaving that island and travelling to the blue lagoon, where my husband and kids jumped of the boat and enjoyed a swim before heading back for the day.

The next trip we did was to paradise beach, if your a TikTok fan you’ll see this beach is also known as bubble beach. There’s a blue barrier in the ocean that tells you where the bubbles are. They come from an active volcano on a nearby island and cause all the bubbles in this part of the sea, I hate the sea and to my ankles is enough, but after a panic attack half way, I faced my fear and made it and I was so happy that I did. We made sandcastles with moats, had toasted club sandwich’s, chips and fresh melon then ended the day out on a jet ski.

Last trip we did was to Zia, a really Greek traditional village up in the mountains. I saw a restaurant (again on TikTok) that I decided I wanted to go to, so pre booked the roof terrace there and we watched the sun set and captured a bit of blue hour. Blue hour is when the sun sets and you get that blue and purple sky before night time falls. Chasing sunsets are my fave thing to do on holiday and the food was gorgeous here. I had a creamy chicken dish, whilst Scott had Pork, Lexie wanted pasta, Ryley had a Greek burger, Jaxon had chicken slouvaki and Rocco went with what he knew and had chicken nuggets, but they were huge and everyone loved there meals. We went shopping after and because Bodrum is so close to Kos and you are able to do a day trip there I’m assuming that’s where a lot of the shops they’re got stock like Christian Dior bags, palm angels and Tommy Hillfiger clothing aswell as being able to buy the Greek sponges, dream catchers and other souvenirs.

The day before we left we went to Kos town which has got a big castle a large harbour, loads of bars and restaurants and rows of streets with lots of shops selling a lot of the same as Zia, a really great atmosphere day and night and you could spend a fortune or just sit and people watch there.

We travelled by bus from our hotel which was €7.15 one way from our hotel for the 6 of us, the bus was really reliable, there’s only 17 taxis on the whole island so you can wait a while for one and it was a 10 minute bus drive or a 40 minute walk.

Overall we absolutely loved it, the kids were in there element having crepes made fresh right by the pool and lived on them and slush puppies aswell as ice cream all holiday. If you didn’t want all inclusive I would definitely also recommend self catering here because there’s plenty of options to eat out and if your confident to drive abroad it took us 40 minutes to get from one side of the island to the other by coach, so a few days hiring a car or a beach buggy and you could explore so much more than we did. There's an onsite shop at the resort but only a 3 minute walk to the local supermarket and a business called "Steve's bikes" you can hire children and adult bikes raging from €5-10 per day and also mopeds, quads and beach buggy's.

Honestly such a beautiful island with so much to do and experience, so if it's in your wish list to go then do it, you won't be disappointed.
